Russell Island, Sept 15th

Russell Island was our last Canadian stop when we cruised up here in 2008 and we wanted to check it out again. Found it much the way we remembered, but with the addition of a dinghy dock. The Island is a park now, but was originally homesteaded by Maria Mahoi and her second husband George Fischer. Maria inherited the island in 1902 and moved there in 1905. The house and fruit orchard and other improvements still stand, and the setting is charming. Maria's Hawaiian descendants still spend time on the island occasionally doing interpretation for the public.

For most of the trip we've had great weather but the rain finally caught up with us. While headed back to our boat after exploring the island we got drenched as a sudden rainstorm passed by. The minute we were back on the boat the sun came out. Good rainbow weather.
