Red Bluff Bay, August 5-6th

After a relaxing couple of days at Warm Springs Bay, we headed South along the east coast of Baranof Island towards our next anchorage at Red Bluff Bay. Kona drove the boat while we fished:

While at Warm Springs, we had a conversation with a guy who was staying at the lodge. He said he caught over 200 pounds of fish over the last week (with a professional guide). He said he caught many salmon right outside the inlet we were staying. That got us motivated - as soon as we left Pete started to fish and within a few minutes we caught a beautiful Coho. Kept going & less than 10 minutes later we caught another beauty, this time a Pink. Pete had me reel it up and kept referring to it as my fish. He insisted on making me take a photo with it. Yuck! (notice the glove -PB).
That said, the Pink Salmon was very tasty. Mild, delicate flavor- made for a delicious meal.

We are slowly but surely filling our freezer...

Kona will not leave us alone until she gets her share:

Our next stop was Red Bluff. A fellow cruiser had said this was a beautiful spot and it sure was. We decided to spend two nights there so we were able to relax and explore.

Took a dinghy ride over to the beautiful waterfall and then explored the shore for awhile.

We put down a crab pot and a prawn pot as it had been awhile since we caught any. Happy ro report we caught two nice dungies during our stay, though unfortunately we struck out on the prawns.

As we had extra time here, we finally went for a kayak ride. We had seen a couple of bears the night before during low tide playing around the river bank & in the meadow. You could only explore the river during high tide so scenery was more on our mind than wildlife. Was very nice to get out & explore without a motor. Always changes your perspective on things. One of which was the bear we did surprisingly see on the same riverbank. Luckily, we were fairly far away as bears sure look bigger when you're in a kayak versus a boat. Once the bear noticed us he ambled off into the woods while we choose to head back to the boat. Overall a successful kayaking adventure.

Dusk and evening sure were beautiful here. So quiet, still and peaceful. The little white dot to the left of the peak is a quarter moon that hung in the sky making for a picturesque evening. Glad we took time to stop and enjoy this stunning anchorage.
